Hijab-wearing Barbie doll has come to the limelight. Actually, the doll pays honor to an American fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad.

Ibtihaj Muhammad came out to be the first US woman fencer who wore the Islamic headscarf during the Olympics.

The face of the doll gets the shape of the Ibtihaj Muhammad who won a bronze medal in Rio last year.

Woman fencer feels herself lucky. she has said, “childhood dream come true”.

In addition to it; she says, “For all those people who didn’t believe in me”.

The hijab-wearing Barbie doll got unveiled at Glamour’s Women of the Year summit.

The company has made the Barbie doll in likeness of Ibtihaj. It has shown the doll having full fencing gear. The doll has worn a mask and sabre, training shoes and a hijab around her head.

The hijab-wearing Barbie pays honors to women who break boundaries. Therefore, it is the part of the Barbie “Shero”.

Furthermore, past dolls included gymnast Gabby Douglas and Selma director Ava DuVernay.

The doll shall be available online next Autumn.

On Twitter Ibithaj Muhammad made a tweet on hijab-wearing Barbie. she felt proud and said, “a Barbie who chooses to wear hijab”.

Furthermore, she has hoped that the doll would inspire girls around the world. In her words she puts, “To embrace what makes them unique”.

Ms Muhammad says, “She used to play with Barbies until she was a teenager, but none of the dolls looked like her”.

Therefore, “She resorted to sewing mini hijabs onto them”.

Most importantly, many people have criticized the company making the dolls. Because the company was making dolls too thin and overly sexualized.

Now the maker Mattel says, “We are planning to release a range of new figures next year modelled on inspirational women”.

However, Ibtihaj Muhammad is also a sports ambassador. She works on the US Department’s Empowering Women and Girls through Sport Initiative.
