RAMZAN FASTING IN ISLAM
Ramzan fasting in Islam makes the person to keep from eating, drinking and lying etc. However, the spiritual elite people, the Sufi spend their fasting in a strict manner. They consider fasting of the ear, eyes and tongue the most caring. As a result, they do not even think of any worldly gain in the month.
KINDS OF RAMZAN FASTING IN ISLAMIC SUFISM
One can find three kinds of fasting in the Holy month of Ramadan. These include ordinary fasting, special fasting and extra-special fasting.
- Ordinary fasting includes abstinence from food, drink and sexual satisfaction.
- Special fasting is to keep your ears, eyes, tongue, hands and all other organs free from sins.
- Extra-special fasting is the outstanding form of fasting. The Sufis keep their heart away from worldly thoughts and unworthy concerns. They spent their day in total obedience of Allah. They do not regard anything distracting them from the path of Allah.
A fasting person has two kinds of happiness. Firstly, He enjoys pleasure at the time of breaking his fast. Secondly, when he shall meet his Lord (God). According to the Hadith:
“There are two pleasures for the fasting person, one at the time of breaking his fast, and the other at the time when he will meet the Lord; then he will be pleased because of his fasting.”
(Sahih Bukhari vol 3, No 128)
IMAM AL-GHAZALI ON THE RAMADAN FASTING
Imam Al-Ghazali says, “The spiritually elite (Sufi) observe Ramzan fasting in Islam from heart. They disregard everything but Allah. If a Sufi thinks of worldly matters, he shall have his fasting broken.”
However, Imam Al-Ghazali does not include the worldly matter related to religious duties.
SHAYTAN (THE DEVIL) AFFECTS THE RAMADAN FASTING
The devil (shaytan) is the enemy of the man. He keeps on trying to affect the Ramzan fasting in Islam in different ways.
The devil (Shaytan) affects the Ramadan fasting as he plays with the emotions and passions. Hunger breaks all kinds of such passions. Therefore, the devil cannot affect the Ramadan fasting. The hadith narrates as follow;
“Verily, the shaytan runs the Son of the Adam like blood. Therefore, constrain the passageways of the hunger.”
(Sahih Bukhar and Muslim)
THE FASTING IS A DOOR
The Ramzan fasting in Islam also serves as a door for a Muslim. The fasting becomes a door to the worship.
For everything there is a door, and the door of worship is fasting.
Furthermore, there is a door Riyan. The people will enter into paradise because they observe fast regularly.
Evil gaze can make your fasting no more. Most of all, only one glance of the kind may break your fast. Since, the fasting person takes care.
Jabir relates from Anas that God’s Messenger, on him be peace, said: ‘Five things break a man’s fast:lying, backbiting, scandalmongering, perjury and a lustful gaze.’
ALLAH SETS FREE THE PEOPLE FROM THE HELL FIRE
Many people have their luck in this month. Their sins are forgiven. So, a hadith narrates:
“And for Allah many people are set free from the Hell fire, it happens on every night of the Ramadan.”
In addition to it, Allah showers his blessings during the Ramadan month continuously from day to night. Therefore, He also saves people from the Hell fire in the IFTAAR (evening) time.
Hence, one of the Hadith describes about the fact in the following words.
“Hazrat Abu Amama narrates that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) said, Allah releases many people from the Hell at every IFTAAR time.”
(Masnad Ahmed bin Hambal)
Therefore, Ramzan fasting in Islam becomes the month of blessings.
THE HOOR (WOMEN) OF PARADISE PRAY IN RAMZAN MONTH
Another companion of the Prophet, Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr narrates that on the first day of Ramadan, the Hoor (women) of paradise pray.
“Oh Lord! Select from your creation such men that cause satisfaction to our eyes. And, their eyes get satisfied from us.”
Consequentially, Islamis sufism stresses in totally obedience of Allah. Therefore, it is strict.
